CHAIRMAN'S CHAT
Term 4, 2008
Over recent months our committee has been busy planning our programme for 2009. We think we have got some challenging, exciting, and progressive ideas in the pipeline but there are so many new developments in the computer world that it is difficult at times to decide how we can best help our SeniorNet members.
Probably the best thing we have to offer is the small classes of similar aged people with usually one tutor to three members. We don't have to wrestle with the speed and jargon of youngsters!
Looking ahead to next year we are aiming to provide in
the first term:
· 2 hour session computer awareness courses, free for newcomers
· A 6 week introductory course for both Windows XP and Vista.
· A basic 8 week Word Processing course for both Word 2003 and Word
2007
· A 4 week course on E mail, followed by a 4 week course on using the
Internet.
· 2 hour workshops about using Trade Me, and Flash Drives, and some
other topics, if we can develop appropriate notes and manuals
Later in the year we will be providing other courses and workshops. Full details
will be in our next mail out towards the end of January.
We are having a Display in the North City Plaza on Thursday 15th January; and an Open Day at our classroom on Wednesday 21st January.
Please let your friends know.
We are a fairly small group in Porirua and this puts some constraints on the range of classes we can provide. As you can imagine developing new resources is very time consuming.
However we are fortunate that within the wider SeniorNet family we are able to find out what other SeniorNets are doing and what resources they have. There is a great willingness to share.
As we come to the end of 2008 I would like to put on record my thanks to our committee for their efforts and hard work throughout the year.
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy New Year.
Roll on 2009 !
Hunt Dryburgh,
Chairman.
